Testing procedure at length to be agreed by majority before event.

Speaker set agreed on at beginning of meet. Will be chosen from reflex. fast. revealing cabinets.

Blind listening tests to include full range content. ( want people to judge with their ears rather then their eyes)

Cheers

Matt its question time smiley26

What if ''i'' think amp A sounds better than amp B and you think amp C sounds better than both amps A+B oh oh but another member thinks amp D is the best sounding yet theres ANOTHER member who thinks amp E sounds better and we're all just mad ....

What if your speakers are shit and amp D is let down by poor cabinets and crossovers or somebody doesn't like the sound of the speakers..... ?

All your doing is wasting your time Matt.

Yes people buy certain amps becuase of the way they sound but the key selling/buying point for anybody is RELIABILITY. You can have the best sounding amp sitting in your rack but if it does not turn on its fuck all use to anyone.

You said that the amp manufacturers will be there...... really ? What Crown, Crest, MC2, Powersoft, Lab, EV, and QSC smiley32 smiley32 ooooor is it just Andy

Good points Tim.
Thing is this HI-FI level of quality that people seem to strive for on these forums is totally wasted on Jo public. There comes a point (and lets not forget this is massivly affected by the venue) that the sound is percieved as good. Over that point is not usually noticed, having a good time in one way or the other is what the punters want, they havn't come to sit in a listening room and discuss the finer points of 30hz or 20k.
However (and this is the main point as Tim said), the punter WILL remember a night when the amps break down, so will the promotor.
R&D is for the beta testers, any product be it a car, amp, TV or anything should be fit for purpose. There are many, many companies out there that have released product too early, or made mistakes. Amps as discussed here plus the well documented issues of Inf 8mk1, some nasty Peavy's in the past, Hill's, Chamelions, some Thomann digitals, the list goes well beyond my experience. Behringers DONT sound as good, but as a rule they dont break, even into 2r.
SO I agree, reliabilty is paramount, why else do ancient old C Audios and Amcrons fetch good money still?
As usual, all IMHO, feel free to shoot me down in flames :)

Tim, Surely its about comparing amplifiers? Most people regardless of their wishes and desires use reflex boxes. Most tunes that are played were mixed on Reflex boxes. I happen to think that they are also the most revealing of box types (well actually the sealed box probably is but not many examples of that for sub on PA).
If anyone you cannot judge amplifiers on a well designed reflex sub then they probably are in the wrong game.

Voting should be easy to understand.

Amp A, gets 10 votes
Amp B, gets 20 votes
Amp C, gets 5 votes.

All cast by the people in attendance at the meet.

Amp B has got the most votes = simples.

Regarding reliability.
Three amps suffered at the last meet.
Infinite 8 Mark II, blew an internal fuse ( which was rated too low). All that was needed was a little bypassing with a soldering iron to get it going again as no one had the correctly rated fuse handy.
Matrix, Worked. Died. Checked afterwards to have been an internal fuse ( as the void amp above had a fuse rated too low ). Other matrix amps were available so no point in swapping the fuse in this one.
Lab 6400. Worked. Died. Fault still not diagnosed to the best of my knowledge.

Regarding manufactures.
They will be invited. Not Invited. Invited. Not invited. Invited. ( Suggest we do this the easy way from the start )

Manufactures are invited. If they want to come, they can. If not, fine. Those that do attend will be in the same area as the other guests. We, less knowledgeable folk, get to ask questions and learn in this manner.

Cabs used.
Voted for at beginning of meet. You choose which you want to use as a reference, blind. Not trying to rip peoples ears off using super efficient horn loaded cabs.

Full details on testing procedure to be decided upon, nearer the time. Testing procedure will be published before the meet takes place.

Cheers

This will be a very good experiance if its all organised well and potential problems are forseen before the event. Will there be power tests? with clip point measured?
