Some cheap amps are not as badly built/assembled as some.

But, cheap new amps are cheap for a reason. I spent a lot of time checking out cheap new amps, big chinese amps, and the fact of the matter is, I would prefer older quality amps over cheap new amps every time.

i can hear the sentiment, guess its something ill learn after ive tried out enough kit for myself having very little time in the game to go on, but having rented a few amps (of the older more refined kind) i can see where your coming from but what we have seems to do the speakers just as much justice, weather they'll last as long is another matter though. i have every intention of being an infinite 8mk 2 owner in a year or twos time and then i think i can rest easy on the bass front and use my current sub amp on mids, that will be fun. (that and having silly overheads on high mid and tops as long as everything holds together)

Cheap new amps are run through marketing quite a bit, the power levels are 'exagerrated' to say the least, but you can still find a few good ones. If you had made some measurements taken on the PV 2500s...in the olde days, manufacturers told people how they rated amps, there are few around that still do. One good quality amp would probably be more money for the watt (real watts) that multiple bad cheapies (specifically bad ones...) would.

BTW, Inf 7 gives out around 1722WPC at 4 ohms. [img]smileys/smiley1.gif[/img]

Not to mention that distortion in even harmonic orders make the amp sound 'rounder' and 'louder', a lot of the amps that Lev has mentioned will do this.

still need to find time to get over here, things have been a bit... hectic of late (in the sense that when im not working i actualy get up of a morning once its here ill save up some cash and take it down to ceharden to see what he makes of it

Well, the 1U form factor is due to clever packing of a class d amp + SMPS (which is an efficient combo). They're actually quite well respected amplifiers, used in large touring situations, installs, and I believe ninebar sound system uses them on lab horns. Be aware that the output power rating is program power, not rms power.

If so, Start off with used quality amps. Then try to let your rig pay for itself..
