When you're talking about "top" level oldies like VZ5000, EV P3000, Crest 9001, some chevins, JBLs (QSCs), small number of others, its about the only time specs are very conservative.
This is when manufacturers have put in PSUs/components that exceed the required specifications, so if amp is asked for a little more, it can do it.
