218 kick horn

Been playing around with this concept of a double 18 horn for a while. I needed another cab to go above my BT7's but they didn't need to go as low as them. From the side view you can see it is basically a CV style horn with another chamber on top with a second driver firing down into the same horn path. Finished the prototype tonight. Played some music thru it- Very LOUD. Hits xmax with little power below 40hz, but when high passed around 45hz sounds great. Hope to do some more tests on the cab soon. Enjoy build pics.

Making use of off cuts-

Thought of doing a backloading/toploading 2-18 1850/186 horn aswell, but thought this would be an easier build.

Interesting looking cap, I think I once saw a Scandinavian design with a similar concept.

It could be a good idea to ad some connection between the drivers rear chambers to ensure even back pressure on the drivers. Just a thought.

I did work out the internal volume of the original chamber, then it was easy to recreate the exact volume for the chamber above. Even with the braces, the volumes of each chamber would have to be still pretty damn close.
However it would be easy to send a piece of pvc pipe from one chamber to the other. What do you think of that idea?

That should work. I has to be as wide as possible and as short as possible. Maybe one in each corner.
If it was me then I think I would have made letterbox like throats and then just cut a hole where the wasted space would have been.
That said, if the chambers is super close to each other in volume, you will probably not hear the difference.

Can you send me a link/photo of letterbox throat. Might try it. Maybe do an A B test, with & without etc.
