Build tips was created by jonny4288
Hi all,

im looking at building a rig for some outdoor parties,

2 x1's
6 hd15's
2 mid/tops

i think the above will makefordecent stacks, it will be for playing dance music mainly techno, so should get plenty of kick from the hd15's some decent bass from the x1's and hopefully there should be enough mid/top to cover that.

Was looking at either buying some pre built unloaded hd15 but cant really find any for sale, so was thinking of attempting to build them, i have 0 experience in this, only bit of diy ive ever doen really is put together some flat pack ikea stuff :p

the thing that puts me off the hd15 build is the curved bit, dont think id get that right,

Anyone care to recommend some tools, materials, ect needed.

Was looking at the plans for the hd15, anyone have a better plan such as sizes of the wood id need to cut individually ect, im sure i could figure something out from that.

Also how many cabinets can you make from x size sheets of wood.

Hello jonny,

welcome to the forum. The X1 /HD15 combo is great and will be perfect for techno.Don't be put off by the curved part, it can easily be made out of 5 pieces of wood like this:

124.7 mm X 472mm (and 9° off each side.

As for the cutlist here is what I used for my 12 x HD15 out of 9 sheets:

That will give you an idea.

I finished an old tube of "Unibond No More Nails Ultra Power Adhesive"

.

But then I switched to Evo-Stik Wood Adhesive Exterior

That sketchup? I'll put it on a file hoster if you want, there's a few on the forums who will like that a lot.

I bought the wood at my local b&q, the guy was happy to have a clean cutlist. The ply sheets came in 8'x4' (or 1.20m x 2.40m) it's the standard.

Yes I used Google Sketchup for the cutlist.Unfortunately I don't have my file anymore, just the pics...

Few warnings though:

-the angles are exact,so you should add a few °

-the baffle angles are not correct the blue piece's angles are \
\ not /
\

-the brace is like the left part of this drawing (courtesy of HBL)

so the corner pieces (orange) are very small and you will not get them cut by your local b&q.Furthermore it is extra work, my boxes don't rattle, but it is not proven that having the brace this way is an improvement in any way.

-the brace is not on the cutlist (drawing by hbl)

-the 5 pieces curve neither. here is a detailed view of the pieces used (thank you hbl again)

Got a half day in work today :)

off to b + q at 1pm, located in chester, they have a timber cutting machine there so is ideal, going to print each cut list off on a individual a4's,

due you recommend increasing the cut sizes very slightly though? in case they cut the pieces a little off.

Any recommendations on screws/glue ect picking those up today.

read your previous glue post, was that for the curves or whole build?

The best is to go to b&q with your measuring tape (or pick on in store) and measure the first cut of each batch to be sure that size is correct.

Screw size: 4 x 40 .

Glue: Evo stick Exterior for everything.

actually look at online stores for cheap glue/screws/t-nuts/bolts etc (toolstation, screwfix etc) they can be way cheaper than b&q...
