Cheapo Brands was created by nickyburnell
The rant in the amp section with ClassD gave me an idea:
Cheapo brands, past and present.

I'll start:

Saxon (Croyon)
Baker (Croyon)
August (Something to do with Sims Watts or similar, Ealing)?
ICE (Horrid Citronic double deck clones)

Any history on above would be fun.

I seem to remember Saxon in something, probably an amp.
Dave Simms and Rick watts made good gear for the time. Loaded with RCF
Ice was run by Rob Peck who later was the importer of Vestax, and then moved on to Gemini. He still may there.
Never used any of the gear though. (apart from Gemini and Vestax.)

Peace and goodwill to all speaker builders

Saxon were next door to Baker, Baker made speakers and amps if I remember. Literature used to quote in CPS, not Hz/Khz.
Saxon made cabs, mixers and amps, MAYBE one of the first crossfades. There was also another shop in Croydon, can't remember it's name.
Tony. The Sims Watts thing, I may have got confused, there was a shop in Ealing though, did lots of band stuff, then disco. Ooer. Just remembered another S/H outlet, in Ivor, near Slough/Windsor,The Disco Barn!!!

Kudos (and Dynamix) used to do a 6 x 5" cab using the Fane Studio 5FR driver. You could use them with or without the controller and they were actually quite good. (Probably better than BOSE).
