Tony.A.S.S. wrote: Nicky, regarding ideas, There are no particular ideas in the new scoop other than working from inside co-ordinates. The change of angle comes because I have lengthened the chamber and "A" has to meet "B". The underneath bracing will need lengthening to allow for the increased length of horn.

Thanks Tony

It's had its' first test, but I'm not happy yet, I have to keep tweeking until it reaches its' peak and then starts to go down the other side. My next job is to adjust the internal pressure to match the front pressure. The shapes I have in front of the speaker make it pretty tight. This cabinet weigh a lot. Unless I am knocked out by it, it will end up in the skip. If a cab costs a lot of money and weighs a ton, it is just not good enough for the cab to do a good job. It has to be amazing. That's what I'm going for.
The MX600 mid section took me three months before I could make up my mind about it. The new scoop bin was easy. That worked first time, but that's because I used two known factors when making the new internal shape. Anyway, win some lose some.
If I can get the upper bass to work right, I will do a new mid high cab. I'm already thinking of mouldings that I could do. I'm also thinking that I'm completely mad. ho hum.

Great work as always Tony.

Do you find that the battens around the edge of the horn mouth affect the sound? I was just thinking that they reduce the mouth area by quite a bit.

Be good to see it at the FSP meet.

About the grill liners. I agree, the whole thing does look restricting. But, firstly the edges are thickened up to reduce panel resonance at the mouth and then of course, we have to have the grill fixings. Our grills have 90 degree folds on them which stiffens them up and the only way to fix them is the way that I do it. On the technical side, because of the wavelength and the effects of defraction, I have never considered it restricts the output. I don't think there is any suggestion the the RX18 is down in any way. I have just improved the output of the the RX18, by making the cab deeper and giving it a larger chamber. The edges are the same. That's my take on it anyway. Let me know what you think on Sunday.
