How about 2*6 inch drivers arranged vertically?

You'll get in-phase addition on axis so sens may be higher than a single 8", and a coverage pattern more similar to most horns. And 6" drivers tend to sound tighter than 8" IMO.

Which 6" drivers were you thinking of? Other question: is the prototype a 3way biamplified system or is it just a simple 3 way system.
For the high frequencies I would suggest to use a B&C DE-250 (really sounds nice)

Must admit I'm not clued up on which 6" drivers sound good. One could look at the Eminence line-array drivers (designed for close spacing). But there are lots of others too.

From the discussion it sounds like mid and high would be passive crossover and then bass and (mid+high) would be active, so 2 amplifiers needed, and a 3-way controller has spare channels for subs if required. Makes sense to me. You can get good quality passive componenets for not too much money if you're crossing in the KHz range. Lower down, you either compromise quality or your components are huge and $$$.

A 3way biamp system would make the most sense to me.
If we're looking for a 6" maybe a Ciare 6.38MR3 are worth considering. Because they're also used in the mid section of a Limmer 042.

I have heard several people who usually have no time for Eminence drivers say that the Alpha 8MR is actually very good indeed. Plus having a sealed back eliminates the need for a separate chamber in the main cab which would simplify things.Edited by: markie

Perhaps they could be mounted in front of the 15. Especially if you have a curved grille like the Martin W8 cabs. That would give more space in front of the 15" driver...

That's a nice looking design, Heathrow, although i thought the FSP-1581 was a reflex box.

Have you modeled it?
