For an 18" or smaller FLH a 2:1 compression ratio is considered safe. But what is an acceptible/sensible compression ratio for 15" or 18" bass horns? obviously, it depends on cone strength, and the ammount of power being pumped in.... Does having a large front chamber before the horn reduce the stresses on the cone?
To get an idea on the effects of horn parameters it's easy to take it to an extreme: Imagine the front chamber to be absent and on the other hand a front chamber the size of a living room.
Tony: The problem I see with your idea is that an 18" will require approximate 25 cm/ 10" build depth each, leaving only 10 cm times X for the throat (at the stated 63,6 cm width). Meaning X would need to be at least 110 cm for a compression ratio of 2:1 (for 2 drivers).
Best regards

A bandpass is an interesting idea. Maybe another thread? What's the real life efficiency like in your designs?

I've finished work on the TT for now (lathed some metal bearings, made a skeleton, etc), and will turn my attention to building some speakers in the little time I have left in the holiday...
I need a few Qs answered though first...
1) Is there a driver budget (that would make more sense than just 18s unless you have some already)
2) what size stacks would you use these in?
