Happy new year

Happy new year to everyone. I think this year will see this Forum gain in strength and establish itself as something worthwhile. I have a good feeling about this year, hopefully, some of us will feel as though they are over the worst financially.
I'm starting the year with new product, which is something I didn't think I would ever do again, so I'm keen to get on and make a splash.

Played out last night, 87 to 97 on big plastic records ;0
First time in 13 years spinning records. Made me want to do drugs, which I didn't, funny how the mind associates stuff.
Wasn't a bad night, finished at three, let local lad (it's a small village) do last hour, I think they shut at five.
Kit was four 18" Fanes with two RCF/Beyma 15 + 1". It sonded lovely and shook the place. Considering the fanes were in CVA cabs and the tops in Berry's I was happy.
What I did notice was the complete lack of personality of the 17 to 20 males. The girls were as alive and vibrant as ever. No surprise all the said faceless males were
drum & bass aficionados. Deb (wife) actually had to explain that if they went and danced to this stuff (that the girls liked) with the girls.........It was like seeing lots of giant pennies drop. Is this schooling or parenting? It really does ONLY seem to be the males?
Very mixed crowd, 16 to 60, a damn good time had by all.
This forum WILL grow now simply because there are no alterior motives, nor will there be. No bullies or heads up arses either. Above all it's a nice place!

Did you notice the lifeless eyes too - like staring into deep dark pits?

Yes I did notice the eyes, have done for some time. The girls eyes still have cheek annd sparkle and life though. I know this is generalising but, well, stereotypes DO exist after all.
It's not the drugs, I know that from experience, maybe the lack of smiley4 ?

Where are you in the NE? My Mum is here from Peterlee at the moment, los of snow at home then?

I'm in Sunderland - we had 4 inches of fresh snow last night and -3C. My 16 yr old daughter and her friends couldn't get a cab back from clubbing last night and walked back to our house (about 20-25mins) with no coats, skimpy dresses and 6 inch platform shoes - par for the course up here - but even the boys decided enough was enough and spent the night on our sitting room floor rather than walking the last mile and a half home.
Strange how the girls don't seem to have these empty eyes - is this one of the signs/reasons that girls are overtaking boys in the intelligence stakes?

I first noticed this when in London (left 10years ago). The Indian community were becoming very prominent. It seemed that the girls were flying, great at school, good jobs etc. The Indian blokes just wern't able to do the same. Someone suggested that it was a case of get an education or get married off. I wouldn't like to comment on that as I don't know...it certainly isn't like that now The situation was the same though, the girls just flew, many of them had just come over, or were born into non English speaking families, didn't stop them, they were hungry for success, got into the fasion blah blah. With a few exceptions the boys I was at school with stayed alienated from the rest of us, yet the girls just integrated from both sides. This is serious generalising of course, only my experience late 70' on and I'm happy to be put right. There does seem to be a pattern though. I know a lot more cosmopolitan, broad minded and alive girls than I do boys, it has definatly been steadily getting that way for three decades now.
Boys such as we are talking about seem so massivly pre-occupied with, "what others think of them", whereas girls make there own style. The pre-occupation of the young boys on nye was to what peole thought of them having a good time to non drum and bass. The girls pre-occupation was with having a good time. Dont know about you but 30 odd girls in war paint and heals always was far more important to me that whether I looked cool or not getting down to the wrong tune. The aim of the night was the nicest babe!
I think some of them worked that out last night, after the wife pointed it out in her very in your face style, a couple of thumbs up from dark corners with a girl on their knee. Begs the question though, why the hell does this need to be taught, surley it's natural? Something is missing.


Anyhow, humbug. Girls should definitely rule the world, Ms Rice and Mrs Thatcher excluded.

Perhaps we should start a thread outlining the change in society, over the years. I got married in '67 at age 21. We were in the middle of the feel good factor of the time, I have seen changes over the years in attitudes and society is unrecognizable to how it was then. I think the human race has branched off in the wrong direction. Don't get me started !!!!!

I think the danger is that all generations think the newer ones are mad.
No wars that affect the whole commuinity, ergo no hardship, ergo greed...
We really are just talking about 100 years though, nothing really. It will never be as it was in UK 50's to 90's unless morals and respect are instilled.
Not going to happen short of something catestrophic coming about.
Some sort of National Service would be a start. Hardship, hunger, comradery, cold etc.

My biggest concern, is regarding the people who will run the country in years to come. It won't affect me, because I'll be long gone, but my children and perhaps their children will be affected. I guess the safety valve is the fact that things change gradually, and less and less people compare today with yesterday. So, it's easy to drift in to another situation without realizing. If you think of a logarithmic curve in reverse, starting at the '60s, I think that is our rate of descent into the abyss

Seriously though. The apprentice, Alan Sugar: This is to be rewarded!!!!!! That level of obsession with making money is obscene. So now you can be a life member of the top club. People in Barbados paying 16 quid for a coke, ooh I've arrived. Shame socialism doesn't work, nobody needs more than enough. The Native American Indians and Aborigines knew this and until some form of change of culture happens, so that we regulate our excess desires ourselves we're stuffed.
