Making an access panel was created by bee
The first thing you need to do is make a template. The size depends on the size of your speaker you are using and the size of the box!. Mark out your template design on your piece of ply making sure the ply you use is well over size to leave room for your router bit, lip and clamps etc.

If you want your access panels to have a curved edge, You will need a flat drill piece. The one i used is a 32mm piece. Mark a 32mm square in each corner with a cross from each corner.

The next step is to drill a pilot hole through the centre of the cross. the drill piece you need to use is one that is half of the size of the thickest bit of the flat drill piece.

The last step in making the template is to cut out using a jigsaw and sand.

The next step is to mark an inner box and cut out use your flat drill bit to cut a hole so you can fit the blade of the jigsaw through.

Now cums the fun bit time to get out the router!. The next step is the most important to do!, take your time check and double check if in doubt check again!. If the box is made out of 12mm ply you need to half that and add the thickness of your template to it. If the template is 12mm the total depth of your router would be 18mm.

Im using the coller that comes with the router you will need one of these!. Re-align your template and clamp in to place so it does not move. The other way to keep it in place is to tack it inplace with nails. The holes can be filled in at a later date. When you are 100% every thing lines up and is securly held in place router around the inside of the template.

Ok nearly there. Remove the template and using the same thickness of ply as your box draw around the the inside of your template and cut out.

Router around the edges of this panel to the same depth you routered from the box (6mm).

Now thats it! easy!. It should now look something like this,

All that is left to do is bolt it to your box using t-nuts.

I hope this helps!, there are other ways to do access panels this is just one way.
