Beware of doing too large a stack of subs in one pile, especially width-ways. It'll start getting too directional.
I
would go for maybe three stacks, one on each side with the mid tops
then a centre cluster. Or maybe better, do two stacks of 4 HD215's on
their sides rather than ends. with the mid-tops on top, then next to
them do a 2 wide, 3 high stack of X1's.
Depends to a certain extent how high you want to get the mid-tops.

Interresting!
I still wonder how an X1 perform without the the floor underneath:
From this page on speakerplans.comRog Mogales wrote: (...)I used two programs to do the X1. I used an Akabak script I wrote that takes many things into account, like that both ports are on the floor so the end correction gives a new lower port tuning.(...)

Providing the height is taller than the width of the boxes, you should have no problems controlling where you want the sound to go.

As far as I know, if it's another cab underneath then it'll behave as if it's on the floor. Just like stacking horns.
