Small DJ/Karaoke System was created by ajw
I have recently been commissioned to build a replacement system for a local Pub. This will replace an existing Jamo setup.
The Jamo system consisted of 4 off EX400's mounted as 2 per side, one on top of the other.
I modified these Jamo's about 2 years ago by taking out the troublesome Mid and Top units and replacing them with a P.Audio 1" comp run down to 2000hz. This leaves the 15" to do up to the same frequency which it must have been designed to do as it really does sound quite sweet.
It was pointed out to me that the new speakers obviously had to be at least as "Loud", pretty compact and not look like normal boxes in that the grills had to be curved as were the original Jamo's. Also the sound quality had to be at least as good as before*.
After much thought and a few sketches** I have decided on using a twin 12" Bass unit and a mid top unit that utilises 3 8" drivers in a vertical line with the middle one also being a co-axial unit which provides the top end.
Obviously I will post the results on this forum as well as build pics etc. although I realize that they will be of limited use because of the specific design criteria.
I will be replacing the existing Dap amps for Andy's UKP models (hopefully after he has decided to flog the SMPS type). The venue already has a DCX LMS so that will just be reconfigured.
Drive units (as if you needed to ask) will be all BMS but I will try to help anybody that wants to try something similar using units from other manufacturers.

Nah, that's 12000 - 70000hz! World's biggest supertweeter.
Reminds me of the similar mistake I saw on the Servodrive Bass Tech 7 sheets.
Apparently their Growler is quite a serious contender for high efficiency in a small package, though.
