Size isn't important, if you're doing a logo it should be vector based anyway[img]smileys/smiley2.gif[/img]

Size is important if you're looking for detail, and the general shape (column, banner, square, etc). I interned for a graphic designer a long while ago, and they produced at least 10 of the same logo in different schemes and levels of detail. of course, with Adobe illustrator nowadays, everything is much easier.
