building a sub? was created by steve allen
hi
thinking of building a couple of sub's, just wondering if any on here have used say drain pipe tubes in one ?, was thinking instead of baffles useing drain pipe in curved length's (like a couple of spiral's)to extend the amount of travel, but make the volume of the cab smaller ,& packing to dampen between pipes with ac wool?
any thoughts on this before attempting
thanks
steve

Just build it and let us know. If it's your idea, you obviously have a reason, hopefully not a short cut. If it becomes an experiment, by the end of it it will teach you something.

Peace and goodwill to all speaker builders

thanks for the advice tony, but really wanted to know if any members have tried,or heard of this, did,nt want to just jumpin with a blind build, know you can use this type of pipe for tunning say a kick bin but unsure of effect using say spiraling 10/15ft of the tubeing x2 or x3 of say 3" or 4" curved pipe, don't think I have ever seen any maths / program to work it out
thanks

Steve
there were some speakers I remember from the past that used concrete pipes the same diameter as the driver, set vertical with the driver in the top which claimed 360º dispersion. Never actually heard any but many pics of similar about in the '70's.

As to your Idea, don't see why it wouldn't work much like a 'Transmission Line' type of loading - perhaps some research on these might assist you?
You may need larger diameter pipe though.

will be interesting to see what results you get!

there are a few cabs on the market that utilise pipes in there design in one way or another...... one that springs to mind is the void stasy x..... this is different to your design, but as tony said, some of the best designs have come about by people doing something to see what happens....

you may be able to sim it as a round duct in akabak, but i would not no how accurate it would be........ there are alot of things a sim program wont do and can do......... ive never tried to sim this kind of thing, maybe bitzo has, as he likes to play with akabak too....
