Ok bee, let's please start off with this Eminence hf driver model PSD 2002-8

Here's where I get confused. Are we looking for a horn that already exists? In other words are we saving time by simply purchasing a horn for the driver versus building our own? Isn't the next step after choosing a particular hf driver to design the horn ourselves? OR are we simply going to use an existing horn to speed up the process so I can learn Hornresp? If so, how do we know what existing horn is the right size? This hf driver I listed above has a 1.25" throat.
I totally understand that designing a horn from scratch based on certain parameters is a book in and of itself. Where would you suggest I go to learn this process via books and/or web sites? Thanks bee. I understand I can just build from plans but I'd rather understand and learn why and what I'm building.

Yes I understand but what exactly is " midkick" defined as? Also, what frequency ranges are typically covered by each of the 5 way boxes listed above in your reply?
I own Jeffrey Forsburg book titled, "Building Pro Audio Loudspeaker Enclosures". Very interesting book.

to start off we will model a basic 12" horn. If you use the hf driver model PSD 2002-8 for hf duties to start with we would want the 12" to meet up with the hf.........
Its best to understand the basics of hornresp first, then more complexed horns can be designed. If you want to design a hf horn then hornresp wont be the best software for this, hr (hornresp) is known to be not so good with higher freq....... and its allso one of the hardest horns to try to sim........
Going back to the basics just to get you started, we will use the B&C 12ndl76.
the thiele small parameteres needed are the,
sd = 522cm2
bl = 20.1txm
cms =
rms =
mmd = 53g mmd = mms
le = 1mh
re = 5.1ohm
nd = 1
your screen should look like this
cms and rms are not provided but dont worry, hr can work them out for you.......

now double click in the cms box, hr will ask you if sd is correct, select yes, then it will ask you for the vas....
vas = 70.79 liters
press enter
next double click on rms, hr will ask you if cms is correct, select yes, then it will ask you for the fs value,
fs = 50hz
press enter
then it will ask you for qms,
qms = 4.2
press enter.
now all the driver parameters needed are inputed.....
your screen should look like this,

hr now has the driver info and the rear chamber info, allso the throat chamber info. next is to design the horn its self.......

we will make the mouth (s1) 360.8, this is the height x by the width......
and (s2) 1944, again this is height x by the width........
and con will be 46.3.....
your screen should now look like this.......
to change l12 to con just click on l12 this will change it to con.....

What next? Thank you very much for helping.

now change ang to 1.0
and press calculate,
select yes for masking,
and hay prest there is a very ruff horn design......
now to turn this into a design, you can work back wards,
s2 = 1944 so the horn exit could be 441mm x441mm
s1 = 360.8 so the horn mouth would be 190mm x 190mm
con = the lenth so the horn would be 463mm long........
hope this guide gets you started...... this is a very ruff guide, but if you change con and s1 and s2, you will see how it changes the horn.
