Here is one for you:
I am looking for an easy way to quickly route the output of one amplifier to different boxes with the use of switch.Let me explain, each time I 've compared boxes the only way to do it while listening was the standard "swap of the cable" at the rear of the boxes...and it's not very quick (actually some excel at it, but not me) and the "operator" is at the back of the boxe so doesn't hear the effect of its action.
How would one go at doing it by using a device with one female speakon, a switch and two female speakon (or more...)?
Am I right to think that a standard switch would "mess" the signal for a ms when operated ?
Would a DPCO (Double pole changeover) (from Wiki ) work for that application?
Is it bad for an amplifier to have its outputs pluged and unpluged while in operation?
can it work the other way around: same box-differents amplifiers ?
I read something about it on psw but can't find it anymore.Any help appreciated.

What sort of powerlevel you thinking off
I just put "speaker box switcher" into google and it came back with quite a few links

yea, I think for testing at moderate power levels.. one of those would be fine.

I dont think it will cause a problem, but mute the amps before you switchover in any case. Also your switch must not have any chance of closing the circuit in any position! I tried to find an image of one of those massive metal double pole switches that are always wall mounted in the evil doctors base in silly films. You need that but smaller.
One question though.... What are you hoping to learn by being able to do this?

I am thinking around 1000W at 8Ohm.unfortunately all the "speaker box switcher" found on ebay or google can't handle more than 300W, so I will need to do it myself.
The plan is to use such a box to compare this month the difference in sound(if any) between a Void v1000 loaded X1 and a PD1850 loaded one, and also to learn if I can hear a difference between amplifiers used on the same box. I think that if it takes time to switch between boxes, it's harder to really tell what's different.

a switcher is ideal for comparing 2 loudspeakers for tuning or comparingperformance as our hearing memory is limited. check out sound.westhost.com for a circuit that uses a relay. most of the big loudspeaker designers/manufactuers use this type of system to analyse their loudspeakers in design. in my experience there is no issue with switching under load especially at 8 ohm. muting the amps takes time and an instant comparrison between the speakers in best.
