Driver upgrade? was created by Rob Wilsher
Greetings all (first post!)
I am a keyboard player in a rock band and have several monitor setups.
Am a little older now and not so agile as I used to be and need to rely on a lighter set up.
I have a couple of old Carlsbro cabs with a 12" 100 watt celestion and Motorola piezo tweeter in each
The cabs are a good portable size but I would like to replace the drivers with some better/louder ones. I use Taurus bass pedals aswell so the dynamic range is wide.
I intend powering them with an old (but good) HH V500 power amp.
I have no knowledge about how to calculate crossover values etc so any help would be well received
There would be room to fit a horn instead of the tweeter if better.
Cheers
Rob

You could always put in some better quality Eminence drivers with low Xmax such as the Delta or other 12". I dont know much about your cab so its hard to give you a recommendation on replacement drivers. If you like the size there are other designs that would sound 10x's better if your up for DIY.

look at a very narrow dispertion horn, on a 1" comp..... this should give the hf a nice sparkle but better clarity than the current piezo's...... this will allso play lower than the current piezo's so will help the main driver out a bit too.....
