hi there.
Got this rig around 5k-ish and the plan is to keep most of the drivers, as there perfectly fine, and get better boxes and was wondering if anyone can give any ideas or feed back on the plan we have for the system.

basicaly

what we got

4x folded horns with pd184 in (600w each)
2x basic 15" with unkown drivers but my mate thinks there eminence around 500w each
2x 12 mid
2x tops

the plan is

Replace the folded horns with better one,s keep the pd 184's in em for now but get the void v-1000 wen the budject allows.
Take the 15" we're using for kicks and put em in some hd 15s
With the tops and mids there getting replaced totaly. With possply mt 130 with the drivers recommended on here.

so the new rig will be
4xfolded horns 1850's- w pd 184
2x hd 15- w eminence 15"
2x mt130

Where ok for amps etc for now but we will needed better ones in the nr future.

Whats is people forts on the idea, what are the alternitives like, is there any thing better/cheaper ways of getting that sett up.
also got all the plans just need to get em checked make sure there correct. the links at the bottem there all off ether here or speaker plans so they should be ok.
here they are
www.freespeakerplans.com/mt-130.html

speakerplans.com/index.php?id=1850horn (mate thinks these need some xtra bracing) and also will these need tobe adapted for v-1000s as were doing that instead just upgrading 184 to 1851's as its cheaper at a later date.

S o any help or advice to this finished would be great help

peace out

i agree with ben. y dont you try play with hornresp a bit. if you do you could try design a straight band pass horn with a port. easier than it sounds (althought im not sayin its easy at all). ive been getting good results with a project im working on now. one of the main problems of folded horns on kicks is that they are folded.... you could design something straight , and it would sound so much sweeter up high. if size is not an issue then u could even ditch the port and just use a bigger bandpass chamber and horn. plenty of help around. i for one could help u on a basic level, and theirs plenty of guys on here that could help u out with more complex stuff. hell, they would be helping us both out.

cheers

Yep.

Also, front loaded horns are different territory.

If you have the right horns, you could possibly get away with no kick bins.
Have heard many people use 186/1850 Horns with MT121s.

Strongly suggest you don't try to use the PD184 in subs at all, get carried away, and you'll be pulling
PauliePaul's number up out of your contact list. smiley2

Also, don't expect to get lower than 50hz, unless you're using stacks of 6x 1850 horns.
186 Horns different story, with meaty drivers they go fairly low and warm.

Good advice, ditch the kicks and use the horns upto the MT cabs.

184's die, they cant even survive in a USB when it is used down to 45, so be careful.
184 to 1850/51 upgrade path will be a big ££ jump though.

How do you know your current horn cabs are not as good as 186? They might be a CV design for instance?

Pics?

Does he really need to?

With so many used Turbosound/ASS kick cabs floating around, and the current price of ply ?

The DnB ( & Jungle) I used to listen to, needed 40hz subs. 186/1850 horns are not designed to do that, maybe an expensive
lesson in reconing, trying to get that out of them.
