Hi Members,

I just joined www.freespeakerplans.com today.

I'm a musician and I have a blues band. I'm getting up in years and have decided I'd like to build smaller cabinets than what I'm using now. The cabinets I currently have require two people to move each cabinet. I'd like to construct powerful cabinets that I can move by myself.

I have 4 trapezoidal PA cabinets made by "Carvin" (model 1503), a pair of trapezoidal 1x18 (model 1801) and a pair of 2x18 (model 1802). The cabinets were manufactured back in 1995. The PA has been very good to me and I enjoy working with it.

I have a complete workshop and I do electronic work as well as speaker reconing.

Currently I am tri-amping my system using a Rane 23 active rack mount crossover. I'd like to find other web sites that offer many design choices utilizing a 3 way stackable system and advice on building smaller efficient cabinets that are easy to move.

I have a basic shop (table saw, radial arm saw, router, radial drill press etc.) and can certainly apply dado joints and build jigs. I just would like to get started on something but not quite sure how to approach it. My new PA would be small enough for say 50 people (outside) but large enough so I can add cabinets to a max size of say 500 people. This PA would be used outdoors.

I own many books on speaker building and its time to put them to work. I also own Jeff Forsburg book titled, "Building Pro Audio Loudspeaker Enclosures" and found it very interesting.

My first question please. I have many books on building loudspeaker cabinets and was wondering if the formulas that used in these books also apply to Pro Audio Cabinet design as well?

For example, I own :

Building Speaker Systems by Gordon McComb
Building Speaker Enclosures by David Weems
Advanced Speaker Systems by Ray Alden

I have studied the science of sound, musicology, tuning theory and music theory for years as it is one of my favorite areas of study.

I understand that it is important to learn the most basic formulas that are presented in these books but wanted to know if the information can also be applied to the world of Pro Audio PA Cabinet Design? The Pro Audio/PA system world has its own lingo as well. Most of it I am familiar with but need a non-intimidating place to start and learn all the required info.

My PA is used for my 6 piece rock blues band.

Any other web sites or links would be helpful.

Thank you very much for your time
