Matrix XP5000 was created by ajw
Just a few words about the new high power switch mode amp from Matrix.
I got to use one of the new prototypes last Sat when I was doing the sound for 4 Emo rock bands.
I normally use 2 separate amps both in bridged mode which give me around 3k into each bass stack. This time I just used the XP5000 as a normal stereo amp.
At NO time could I get more than 2 of the LEDS lit on the XP (my previous amps would have been into clip). At the end of the evening you could not even tell the thing had been switched on it was pretty well still at ambient. It seems to defy the laws on Entropy!!!
I would imagine the Reggae boys are gonna love it.

A weird side affect is that the drivers do not seem to get as hot when driven by the XP as against my XTi's. This is obviously a very unscientific observation (hands on magnet job) but they definitely seem to run cooler. Perhaps this is a function of greater control?

More soon

Tony

I also seem to remember reading something about loudspeaker offset integration in the blurb about the Crown VZ-5002 which is supposed to keep drivers running cooler. It's getting late and I can't be bothered to find it at the moment - will have a look in the morning if I get a chance!

Odd question but which direction is the airflow? Back to front or front to back?

Well bugger me so I was probably not dreaming it then. Great stuff.
This explains why they get so hot on the XTi's because I nearly always use that near or just at clip.
