You two should walk away from sound systems and take up pyrotechnics.

We need higher sensitivity and lower power.
This race for devostaton will end up killing clubs and venues.
IMHO of course. smiley4

im not in the race for devastation Nicky, i agree with you, im seeing venues die weekly.

im just looking for an amp setup where being somewhere with just 13a supply doesn't hinder us, and we can still access the power we need to run the stupidly big speakers we all like to own.

all my cabs are going neo and amps probably lightweight in the next few months.

Just what we need on the forum... Another liberal pacifist!!! smiley36

Have heard 4x 18XB scoops driven by 1x Crest 8001 in 400 person venue, and sub was warm, deep, accurate, lovely, within certain distance of cabs.

Year later, heard 4x PD1850 scoops, in same venue, driven by 2x 2.5k amps, in 4 ohm bridge/13A socket each , and the building was heaving, sub completely covered you everywhere, everyone congratulated Sound dudes.

Guess which sound is resident in there now ? smiley2

Some venues want more sound from same or fewer boxes, which means higher powered drivers... Until Power compression ends the game.. As is happening with quite a few drivers already.. smiley26

Still dont get it Lev, why does everybody need to be covered in sub?
People never were, reggae world or otherwise, the tunes counted, not how much sub was in the tunes.
All of Trojans back cataloge (easy stuff for me to quote, not being from roots world) made everbody smile, dance, hug......how much venue engulfing sub was in that, or Marley....etc.
The route of covering everybody in sub can never be satisfied, it is a drug as such, and as Saul says venues will die.
Perhaps this is the nature of clash, but a quick look though the history tube will show the dubplates didn't need to destroy the venue, they made people dance.

Perhaps I'm old, but Im also old enough to have seen/been on the end of noise restrictions/closed clubs.

Bring back the quality. smiley33

Can only speak in terms of Roots & Reggae..

It's part of the culture. The music is produced in the studio, such that when replayed adequately, it is not only heard but felt.

[tube:sg4lhnya]fanxnVtLg4g[/tube:sg4lhnya]

That's why in the old days, inside and out there would be mountains of speakers, driven by huge cooker sized amps.

Would now imagine most 1500 people Roots/Reggae venues with 32A/63A, would get enough sub from 8x 18s & 2x amps, e.g 8x excellent scoops/WSXtras, and 2x MA5002VZ.

within root&culture music, the whole idea of the sound system is that punters come and listen to the system as well as the tunes. It therefore is inevitable that people expect to be satisfied or even impressed by the systems themselves in all areas. maybe ear splitting sound systems aren't necessary, but there wouldn't be the same feel to roots & culture events without the presence of "the system".

In some cases it does go over the top, i have personally been in situations where either the operator has been pushing things too hard, and therefore quality goes down the pan, or it's just simply too loud to be enjoyable. this generally happens in venues where too much equipment is brought in for the size of the venue or something like that.

this has now become the situ. across many other genres now that dance music is so bass heavy.

for me, i'm just looking for a slick solution to not being hindered by power supplies and such like. even for when we do a live band gig, we want to take as little number of boxes as possible, but still deal with the amount of people at a satisfactory volume. this usually requires some decent drivers being supplied with a decent amount of power.
