Are 16 ohm drivers more efficient ?

What are main disadvantages apart from resale value?

Heard 4x bridged across EV P3000 on 13A socket couple of years ago, and it was very serious.

QSC 5050, EV P3000, are just few of the Contenders for this madness..

EDIT:4050 only has 2x 900VA transformers, so maybe not.

Advantages. higher damping factor through the amp. I've always assumed that if the speaker was a little hotter, it was because the voice coil is smaller (less windings). But I doubt whether you would hear a higher DB level.

4x 16ohm on an amp would have the same damping as 2 8ohm drivers surely

some peeps prefer running bass at low impendance because of less damping

Low impedance will give you a looser sound which as you say, a lot of people like. I don't think it's an accurate sound, but with most sound systems it's all about effect and not accuracy.

"Someone" I know who loves running 16 ohm 1850s on 9001s, says it's all about extracting the full power of the amp, (if it's strong enough).

Extracting the full power is easy. You turn the amp all the way up. How your speaker converts it is another matter.

But 4x 16ohm PD1850s in 4ohm bridge across 9001, get more power than 2x 8 ohm 1850s per channel,
when you "turn it up"... smiley16

Assuming 32A supply.
