an ideal subwoofer design. was created by rvrjack
Dear All,

I am a newbie to this forum.... nice to see so much discussions going on regarding speakers and enclosures. I would like to get advice from you regarding my sub requirement.

I have an Infinity reference 1262W (12") driver at my disposition.

I usually listen to Organ music, classical music , pop music, and lots of movies. so i need an enclosure which can take the driver down to 15Hz . I would prefer a horn or a bass reflex horn hybrid .

I would be listening to this in a closed room of dimensions 20' X 10' X 10' .

please suggest.

A horn that can reach 15hz would be absolutely huge. I really don't think it will be practical at all. This driver is not particularly ideal for horn loading either. I would suggest either a Band Pass sub or else a large reflex. Neither is likely to reach 15hz, but they could go lower than any horn you can fit through a door. This is just barely above the line for being only good in a sealed enclosure. The EBP is like 51. Anything under 50 should only be used for a sealed enclosure. SO this can be used in a vented situation but only barely. The specs have some enclosure recomendations. Their reflex box seems the best actually. infinitysystems.com/tl_files/catalog//In...w/REF1262W_PI_EN.pdf

Not likely. Running below the cutoff on any horn loaded bass speaker leads to over excursion, and there is no way that the 12" version of the eminence is going below 35 or so. Probably well above 40 in all likely hood.
