The original bass speaker for the BS500 was the Fane Colosus which was a 400 watt speaker. The drivers for the MT502 were 200 watt 16 ohm Volts for the mids JBL 2445 for the 2" and 2402's for the tweets. That was over 25 years ago. Today there is more choice, there are a lot of good speakers about. You can do the whole lot fro m within the B and C range, which is why I like them so much.

Did you supply the bs500 cabs at one point with jbl models? And also, without taking pot luck, how would I know which current model of any manufacturers driver will work well in cab?

The choice narrows down because you are looking for speakers that suit compression chambers behind horns as apposed to speakers for reflex cabs. Today, providing it would fit, out of the B and C range it would be the 10MD26 for mids (not shown in the catalogue but available) with a choice of compression drivers going no further than the DE85 and the D35 for the tweeters.
Because the speakers are old and the ones in use have been passed on during their time, they probably have had all sorts of speakers shoved in. As far as the BS500 is concerned It has worked with many speakers. I have put in JBL2226 but they are delicate speakers. Rcf 15's were used after Fane. You could use Band C 15PZB100 or 15PL100. In the Neo range I have the 15NW76 in the R2U system. This is the most efficient speaker for bass.

There is a possibility of me acquiring a pair of mt502 loaded with form focus 10" drivers, which I believe are polish.
Are these any good or just some cheap replacements?

I've never heard of them, you'd have to listen first.

Nor have I. Probably best to match them up with my other mt502's loaded with jbl

Did you install these and if so, what wattage are they (if you can remember)?

I am getting ready to fire these beauties up.

It's a palmer hi pass filter, which is made by Adam Hall. I used to use them before I made my own. They were used to separate the tweeters from the horn, the rest should be active. From memory, they handle more than is needed for a hi pass filter. Not sure about the actual wattage, although that can probably be obtained from the Adam Hall website.I'm sure they still do them. Iy will be either a 5 or 6k unit.
